Taylor Shuck

“He knows a beauty in lyrics and that is something not commonly known or understood by others… He is sweet, kind and motivating”

Taylor Shuck is a Nashville-based banjoist, multi-instrumentalist, and roots singer-songwriter whose playing merges technical fluency with a deep sense of musical narrative. Raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Shuck has emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary acoustic music, recognized for his warm tone, lyrical phrasing, and a forward-leaning approach that honors tradition while embracing exploration.
Shuck’s evolving career has placed him on many of roots music’s most visible stages. His tenure touring with the acclaimed Americana duo The War and Treaty included performances at Bospop, MerleFest, the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Levon Helm Studio, Antone’s Theater, and the Earl Scruggs Festival—settings that highlighted his ability to bring acoustic instruments into powerful, genre-bridging performances with clarity and conviction.
In addition to his work with The War and Treaty, Shuck has toured extensively with the long-running string band Hackensaw Boys, appearing not only across the Netherlands—at celebrated venues such as Vera—but throughout the United States as well. His tenure with the group showcased his adaptability, rhythmic command, and improvisational fluency across festival stages, historic theaters, and high-energy club settings.
Earlier in his career, Shuck gained national recognition as a member of Mama Said String Band, performing at ROMP, FloydFest, Zanzabar, The Burl, and numerous regional venues that shaped his early musical voice. He now leads his own project, performing widely throughout the U.S. and continuing to develop a sound rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and community.
As an Artist-at-Large at the Moonshiner’s Ball, Shuck is frequently featured in collaborative performances that highlight his versatility and commitment to creative exchange within the broader roots music community.
Shuck’s debut solo album—set for release in 2026 and featuring renowned artists Tim O’Brien and Darol Anger—marks an important step in his evolution as a composer and bandleader. Rooted in tradition yet informed by a broad musical sensibility, Taylor Shuck continues to forge a path that is both grounded and forward-looking—establishing himself as one of the emerging banjo voices shaping the next era of American roots music.
